Children and Schools During COVID-19 and Beyond ft. Dr. Jessica Whitley

During this episode we discuss what school leaders, teachers, and families might reconsider as we return to this school year facing a COVID-19 Pandemic 4th wave. Dr. Jessica Whitley discusses the release of Children and Schools During COVID-19 and Beyond: Engagement and Connection Through Opportunity, a Royal Society of Canada policy briefing. Dr. Whitley addresses some of the challenges families have experienced during the pandemic, which has led to increased stress and, in some cases, trauma, that has affected the educational well-being of children and youth. She calls on us to pay close attention to how we are defining and enacting future educational policies and recommendations that attempt to respond to differing lived experiences with “learning loss” and potential integrational implications for our individual and collective mental health and well-being.
